Forested Valley Southern Oregon

About Us

Good Earth Design Co. is a regenerative planning, design and build firm based in Southern Oregon. As certified land stewards and licensed landscape contractors, we combine whole systems thinking and professional construction to create thriving ecological landscapes.

Our Philosophy

Spreading cover crop for regenerative agriculture

Our work is based upon the ethic that humans are an integral part of nature, not separate from it. As such, our interaction with the ecosystems and beings around us can and should be positive and mutually beneficial. As opposed to the misconception of humans only being capable of a negative influence on their surroundings and striving to have a small carbon footprint, we believe in the paradigm that humans can have a large, positive footprint on our surroundings, a regenerative one.

We bring this ethic and mindset to our work, with a focus on creating systems that regenerate the soil, create diverse wildlife habitat, heal watersheds & restore ecosystems, all while growing abundant food and medicine and creating beautiful and resilient landscapes for our clients. Working at all scales and contexts: from backyard gardens to rural acreage, small homestead to large farm, commercial developments to entire municipal watersheds we strive to help our clients, and the communities we work in, implement regenerative practices and create abundant resilience.

Owner & Principal
Lion Waxman

Owner and principal of Good Earth Design Co. Lion Waxman

Originally from Queens, NYC, Lion’s connection to the land began at age 14, spending his summer growing vegetables and tending animals at the Queens County Farm. This early passion sparked years of global travel, volunteering and studying sustainability across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Israel, Palestine, India, and beyond. Through these hands-on experiences, he became a certified Permaculture Designer, Master Gardener, Land Steward, and Sustainable Community Agriculture Guide.

To deepen his technical expertise, Lion earned a B.A. in Social & Environmental Sustainability, followed by an M.S. in Ecological Design from The Conway School of Landscape Design. He also holds a Landscape Construction Professional License through the Oregon Landscape Contractors Board (LCP #16259).

Drawing on over 15 years of professional field experience, Lion’s core expertise spans every scale of the living landscape—from detailed residential ecological design, to green stormwater infrastructure, to organic farm management and regenerative agriculture development, all the way up to municipal-level ecosystem restoration and watershed planning. A passionate educator, Lion has managed school gardens and taught community workshops on permaculture, natural farming, and regenerative water systems. He also currently serves as an instructor for Oregon State University’s Permaculture Design Certificate online course.

For the last eight years, Lion has called Southern Oregon home, living in the hills outside of Talent on the traditional lands of the Latgawa.
